Cleanings & Prevention

Preventing dental disease begins with the patient at home. A balanced diet and a consistent oral hygiene habit will maintain the natural dentition of the teeth.

With good hygiene habits established, the prevention of dental disease then continues into the dental office. It is our job to preserve the natural dentition and supporting structures of your teeth by preventing the creation, progress, and recurrence of dental disease.

Dental Exams & Cleanings

A comprehensive dental exam will be completed at your first visit to our office.

The following examinations will be performed throughout your regular check-up appointments:

  • Examination of existing restorations
  • Examination of tooth decay
  • Gum disease evaluation
  • X-ray examination

Regular Examinations

We recommend scheduling regular dental check-ups every 6 to 12 months to ensure potential problems are detected early. Regular examinations are essential to a successful preventive program and can potentially reduce time, cost, and other issues associated with restorative treatment.

Dental Cleanings

Dental Cleanings will be administered by one of our Registered Dental Hygienists.

Your scheduled cleaning appointment will include the following:

  • Oral cancer screening
  • Removal of plaque
  • Removal of tartar
  • Tooth polishing

Dental X-rays

Dental x-rays help reveal any hidden abnormalities that may have otherwise not been detected during the regular check-up process. This is a vital tool when preparing the right prevention program for each of our patients.

Dental X-Rays May Reveal:

  • Abnormal root position
  • Abnormal tooth position
  • Abscesses or cysts
  • Bone loss
  • Decay between teeth
  • Problems beneath the gum line
  • Tumors (cancerous and non-cancerous)

Sealants

Sealant is a coating applied to the outer surface of teeth to help prevent future cavities and decay.

Applying a sealant is an absolutely painless process and especially useful for prevention of decay in children’s teeth.
